WALK ON BY – Images and impressions of the Twelfth in Ulster

Glenwood Publications, First Floor, 316 Shankill Road, Belfast, Bt13 3AB.  2003.  ISBN 095425731 6  £2.99 Walk on By cover image

WITH the republican war machine scaling back on murders they have fast forwarded their campaign of intimidation, mutilation and humiliation to a greater scale both within their own community and the Protestant community. With beatings and torture of Catholics a fear has been "beat" into "their own people" that they have been unable to speak out against such attacks.

Within the Protestant community a more concerted campaign has driven families both young and old from towns, villages and housing estates throughout Northern Ireland.  These actions go mainly un-noticed by the media.

Within the Protestant community we enjoy our culture which we have done for many many years with little or no trouble until elements within republican and nationalist communities started a war against us. Throughout the troubles there were people from the Catholic Church and other political parties who spoke out against the bombs and murders but now with the campaign against the Protestant people and culture at fever pitch their silence is more deafening than any drum played on the 12th July.

They have managed through very clever tactics and PR stunts to give the impression that "they" are the victims and the Protestants are the aggressors. After years of sitting back and listening to these claims an effort is now taking place to address the lies been told. A new booklet called Walk on By gives a breakdown of what the Protestant culture is about and the truth behind the hate campaign carried out by those in the republican/ nationalist grouping. The booklet looks at the real reasons why the Protestant people turn out in such fine form and those who travel from all over the world to celebrate one of the biggest parades and events in the world, "the 12th July".

This 20 page booklet is a breath of fresh air to our culture and one that will hopefully put the story straight world wide. With the United States of America on high alert against terrorist attacks the people of this small spot in Europe understand the fear of not knowing what’s next. The USA are now going through the same ‘anti’ propaganda as we are so maybe if this booklet can be made a success then they might understand the feelings of fear and isolation that the protestant people have suffered on a daily basis.
